Resources

UC Davis and the School of Veterinary Medicine have invested in a variety of resources to promote excellence in research. The VIRC maintains access to these resources that allow for the investigation of high-impact basic, translational and clinical research. The VIRC also offers programs to assist investigators in grant application preparation and submission and opportunities for pilot grant funding.

Pilot Grant Funding

We offer pilot grant funding of up to $20,000 to VIRC core members to promote novel and innovative projects that will support and enhance the VIRC's mission.  Members are welcome to submit one application per lab/PI. Please click here to download the 2016 VIRC Pilot Grant Program Request for Applications and Cover Page (Note: the call for 2016 has ended, please check back next year for the 2017 call). For more information on how to become a member, please click here.

Grant Writing/Submission Support

The VIRC supports members in developing an integrated and comprehensive grant/funding application by offering assistance in grant writing, preparation and submission.

UC Davis Veterinary Regenerative Medicine Laboratory

Regenerative medicine focuses on harnessing the power of adult-derived stem cells and the body’s own regenerative capabilities to restore the function to damaged cells, tissues, and organs. The VMTH’s Regenerative Medicine Laboratory was established in 2008 to provide stem cell processing services for treating equine patients. More recently, limited stem cell processing services have become available for dogs and cats. As the field of study becomes more broad, researchers are continually looking to expand these services to other species. To learn more about the Regenerative Medicine Laboratory please click here. Please note that as of May 1st, 2016 The UC Davis Veterinary Regenerative Medicine Laboratory has restricted access to investigational stem cell products to those who are involved in UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine sponsored clinical trials.

Advanced Imaging Facility

The Advanced Imaging Facility is a campus wide recharge unit, which has two Leica confocal microscopes, one with superresolution capability, the second with multi-photon imaging capability.  To learn more about the Advanced Imaging Facility click here.

Diagnostic Imaging Services

The diagnostic imaging team at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital provides imaging support to VIRC disease teams. Radiologists can assist in establishing imaging protocols to monitor response to treatment and track stem cells in-vivo using scintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Additionally, the diagnostic imaging team provides other services such as: fluoroscopy, computerized tomography (CT), ultrasonography, and nuclear medicine. These techniques are extremely valuable to compare different routes of cell injection, characterize the distribution and persistence of stem cells in animals and accessing the efficacy of regenerative medicine treatments.  To learn more about Diagnostic Imaging Services please click here.

Flow Cytometry Shared Resource Laboratory

The UC Davis Flow Cytometry Shared Resource Laboratory provides access to expertise and instrumentation for analytical flow cytometry, cell sorting and laser scanning cytometry to all researchers at UC Davis.  To learn  more about the Flow Cytometry Core Facility click here.

Real-time PCR Research and Diagnostic Core Facility

The Real-time PCR Research and Diagnostics Core Facility is a UC Davis laboratory offering Real-time PCR diagnostic and research services to the veterinary and academic communities.  With over 15 years of PCR experience, stringent quality control guidelines, and well validated standard operating procedures for every aspect of service, the Real-time PCR Core Facility remains a leading competitor in the field of molecular detection. To learn more about the PCR Core Facility click here.

Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital Laboratory Services

Laboratory Services at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital provides a wide variety of diagnostic testing and therapeutic products for the multitude of specialty services within the VMTH, as well as for referring veterinarians and researchers. The laboratory personnel includes board-certified veterinary faculty specialists and highly qualified veterinary professional staff who provide essential, state-of-the-art diagnostic testing and therapeutics using specialized equipment. Services provided include: clinical diagnostics, regenerative medicine (stem cells), transfusion medicine, and anatomic pathology.  To learn more about Laboratory Services click here.
